One Spartan team down, Michigan State next By Mitch Section: BasketballPosted on Thu Dec 07, 2006 at 02:15:59 AM EDT It was a win with little struggles for the Cougars hoops team tonight. BYU beat San Jose State 81-69 to put the Spartans at 1-7 on the season. BYU struggled at points in the first half letting the Spartans tie it up, and take a three point lead. But in the second half the altitude got to the Spartans who looked tired and the Cougars rolled. Co-Players of the Game: Trent Plaisted and Lee Cummard Trent Plaisted had his best performance of the season scoring 20 points, and 8 rebounds. Its great to watch Trent play when he isn't in foul trouble, he is dominant. Lee Cummard who is finally coming into his own, is playing great right now on both sides of the floor, and is filling up the box score nicely. Cummard's stat line tonight: 11 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, 4 steals, an outstanding game. BYU is now heading to play Michigan State in the Palace of Auburn Hills. Its going to be a nationally televised game on ESPN2 this Saturday. I feel BYU is capable of pulling off the upset, this will be a big game for the Cougars to get that NCAA Tournament resume looking better, because the loss to Boise is not a good one to have. Vuk Ivanovic Ivanovic sufferd an ankle injurty so he was not playing, he will be back for the Michigan State game. Gavin MacGregor filled in as the back-up Center and his long arms altered some Spartan shots tonight. Broadus and Ainge backcourt I think tonight's starting lineup consisting of Plaisted, Young, Cummard, and then Ainge and Broadus in the backcourt is the best lineup Coach Rose has put on the floor. The home winning streak at the Marriott Center is now up to 18 games, the 6th longest in the nation. BYU is now 5-2. Overall Grade: B+ Saw a few football players at the game. Eddie Keele, and Romney Fuga. I also saw Nate Meikle at a Taco Bell before the game. He looked like he was walking around okay with that hamstring injury. The things and people you see in Provo. --Mitch |
