Getting up to Speed. (Football gets first commit of 2008)

The workload has been alot busier lately, and I haven't had much internet time. So my apologies for the lack of posting. Here is what has been going on in the world of Cougar sports in the past week, for those of that missed it.
The Class of 2008 recruiting is off to a big start with the the highly touted TE out of Bingham High School. Holt just this past summer was listed in The Sporting News High School Football preview as a Top 25 prospect for the Class of 2008, so this is a big get. Imagine a TE tandem of Devin Mahina and Austin Holt? BYU is gonna be loaded as always at TE for years to come.
BYU Basketball is on a tear, winning their last Six games, and owns sole possesion of 1st place in the conference. There are five games left three of which are at the Marriott Center, and then the two road games are tough but BYU should win at San Diego State and Air Force. Should be very exciting down the stretch.
BYU is currently tied for the nation's longest home winning streak in the nation at 28 games with Air Force. Gonzaga lost Monday night at home in "The Kennel" to Santa Clara, 84-73. BYU's streak will be put to the test tonight against New Mexico.
BYU received another from Cole Nielsen a Quarterback who was a Top 100 prospect back in 2003.
As for the site, still going to post the Recruiting class reviews for each season and cover more in-depth the tail end of Basketball season leading up to "March Madness!"

Have been busy lately, so the posting has been light. Here is an update on news & notes from the program since we've been gone.
Cornerback Tico Pringle was yesterday for violating team rules.
Cole Miyahira is being switched from Safety to Cornerback for the bowl game, and is the projected starter. Ben Criddle and Kayle Buchanon are still questionable for the game. I would expect that they don't play in the bowl.
Projected depth chart at Cornerback for LV Bowl Starters: Justin Robinson (recovering from shoulder injury) Cole Miyahira
Reserves: Brandon Howard (r-Fr.) Nate Hutchinson (Fr.) Andre Saulsberry (Jr.) Will this guy ever play?
Tight End Jonny Harline continues to earn national accolades, by earning

With the big win over TCU last Thursday BYU has been getting more attention from national media. Great to see once again.
BYU jumped in the latest Sports Illustrated College Football poll. Heres what SI said about the Cougs:
The Cougars committed outsider-on-outsider crime last Thursday, ending TCU's 13-game winning streak as well as the Horned Frogs' hopes of earning an at-large BCS bid out of the Mountain West. The 31-17 win cemented BYU quarterback John Beck's status as an amphibian-killer: In a loss to the Frogs in 2005, he passed for 517 yards and five touchdowns, and in 2006's meeting, he threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns. In the Salt Lake Tribune, BYU quarterbacks coach Brandon Doman called it "the best game [Beck] has played in his life."
John Beck has been getting alot of attention with his impressive performances, and the NFL scouts are taking notice. , and heres an article on Beck's draft stock over at

Odd blog entry in
HARDY, HAR, HAR Two funny things happened in conjunction with BYU's beating of Utah State yesterday.
On BYU's first scoring drive, Fui Vakapuna had 44 yards on four carries. The pressbox public address announcer blurted into this into the mircophone: "For you Utah graduates, Vakapuna averaged 11 yards per carry."
After the game a fan disguised as a sportswriter from Idaho showed up at the press conference dressed in a BYU shirt. During his question to Jason Beck, his cellphone began to ring. This homer, who actually does work for a newspaper across the border, had BYU's fight song as the phone's ring.
I think its clear to most BYU fans that Kinahan is not a BYU supporter and he has no interest in what he does. Hire a new beat writer....how bout Mitch from Provopride?

RF365: What are your thoughts and feelings as you contemplate returning with the BYU football squad to Boston College and the site of many great football memories for you?
PP: I'm excited. I have a lot of friends out there that I'm anxious to see and the coaches who I played for are still there and I'm excited to see them. On the other side of the ball, I'm part of a new team now, so I want to see BYU have a lot of success and come home with a victory."
Eagle In Atlanta blog put up his and he feels the Eagles will roll to a two Touchdown victory. Only time will tell but I think Eagle fans are in for a surprise on Saturday.
for Week 3.
The BYU Cougars left for Boston earlier today. It is the longest trip BYU is making within the continental United States (2,090 miles). The longest of course is Hawaii (2,994).

Commissioner Craig Thompson of the Mountain West Conference said Tuesday that "I absolutely sympathize" with college football fans who cannot see the league's new television network because it is not available on satellite broadcast services like DirecTV and Dish Network.
Basketball Coach Dave Rose voted as the in College Basketball for the upcoming season.
7. Dave Rose (BYU): Though Pearl at Tennessee probably had the best first year of any Division I coach, if somebody wanted to make a case for Rose I'd be willing to listen. The longtime Steve Cleveland assistant was nothing short of spectacular in his rookie season. The Cougars were picked to finish last in the Mountain West. Instead, they finished 20-9 overall and 12-4 in the league, a mark good enough for a second-place tie.
With four starters back, Rose has the pieces in place to improve on last season and maybe even take the MWC title. If he does, any BCS athletic director worth his country club membership would be wise to make a phone call, just to see if Rose might listen and uproot.

Weekly for Boston College game. (BYU Athletics)
SERIES INFORMATION BYU and Boston College meet for just the third time. The trip will be the Cougars first to Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Cougars and Eagles have split the two previous match ups between the two schools. BYU won the first game, 28-14, in 1985 on a neutral field (The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.). After a 20-year hiatus, the two teams met again last year with Boston College taking the 20-3 victory.

On BYU's campus Monday, I checked in to monitor the mood after the weekend when CSTV made BYU-TV pull its compressed-delayed rebroadcast of the Tulsa-BYU game on Saturday morning, after a published on-air guide promoted the event. BYU athletic department spokesman Duff Tittle admitted frustration, a lot of frustration, over events of the weekend, but refused to describe BYU's administration as angry, mad or generally ticked off. Maybe they should have been, but they were not, said Tittle. "We're looking at a short-term frustration that I believe, in time, will bring long-term benefits. It's just going to take some time, more time than many of us believed at the beginning of last week," Tittle said.
has BYU listed as the right now going into Week 3.
Should be pleasant weather in Chestnut Hill on Saturday. Temperatures should be around around kickoff time with a light chance of precipitation.
